Each month a call to male mentors for the waiting boys in our community becomes more evident when the ratio of children to volunteers are 15 to 20 children verses half the number of volunteers. Recruitment of new mentors is the focus of Big Brothers Big Sisters during the months of September and October with its 30 mentors in 30 days media campaign.
Big Brothers Big Sisters serves a
more than 500 children through the Community Based and School Based programs
each year. One-to-one mentoring is the cornerstone of the traditional Big
Brother or Big Sister match. These 448 Little
Brothers and Sisters receive the service of a one-to-one match relationship
with caring adult volunteers. As impressive as this number may appear,
the agency says there is no room for celebration just yet.
Big Brothers Big Sisters has set a
goal to gain at least 30 mentors in 30 days to minimize the 136 children on the
waiting list. The children are residents
of the Mid-South and surrounding area that are looking for a positive role
model to assist there growth to becoming a positive member of society.
Big Brothers Big Sisters and its
media partners Cumulus, Action News 5 and Comcast welcomes you to
participate in its 30 mentors in 30 days campaign. Just a few hours per month can make a
difference in the life of a child that will last a lifetime.
